Gujarat has reported its highest surge in the number of COVID-19 cases with 280 fresh cases reported in the past 24-hours ending at 6 pm on Saturday. The addition of the fresh cases has taken the state’s coronavirus case tally to 1,376.
After five more deaths were reported from Gujarat on Friday, 12 fresh deaths were again reported on Saturday—the highest number of deaths reported in 24-hours—that pushed the state’s death toll due to COVID-19 to 53. Out of the 12 deaths in the state, four deaths have been reported from Ahmedabad, two deaths have been reported from Surat, and one death has been reported each from Vadodara, Aravalli, Bhavnagar, Panchmahals, Anand, and Gandhinagar.
A 60-year-old woman died in Bhavnagar’s Sir T Hospital, a 54-year-old man from Panchmahals died in GMERS Hospital, Gotri, and a 45-year-old man from Anand succumbed to the deadly virus at ND Desai Hospital. A 53-year-old woman, a cancer patient, from Gandhinagar died in Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
As far as the deaths in Surat is concerned, a 65-year-old man suffering from diabetes and a 36-year-old woman suffering from hypertension succumbed to the deadly virus at Surat Civil Hospital. In Ahmedabad, a 68-year-old woman, a 72-year-old woman, and a 65-year-old woman died in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Hospital. This apart, a 50-year-old woman with brain-related ailments died in Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
Also, a 70-year-old woman from Aravalli with heart ailments died in UN Mehta Hospital in Ahmedabad and a 60-year-old man from Vadodara died in SSG Hospital.
Out of the 280 new cases, 239 cases are of Ahmedabad alone, whereas Surat and Vadodara reported 16 fresh cases each. Bhavnagar has reported four fresh cases and Rajkot and Panchmahals have each reported two fresh cases. Anand, Bharuch, Mahisagar, and Sabarkantha have reported one case each.
With the addition of the 239 fresh cases till 6 pm on Saturday, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad has increased to 862—the highest in Gujarat. The city has also reported the maximum number of deaths in the state. After four deaths were reported on Friday, four deaths were again reported on Saturday that pushed the death toll due to the deadly virus to 25 in Ahmedabad.
Apart from the 862 COVID-19 cases reported from Ahmedabad so far, Vadodara has reported 158 cases, followed by Surat with 153 cases and Rajkot with 30 cases. Bhavnagar has reported 30 cases and Anand has reported 27 cases. Bharuch has reported 22 cases, whereas the capital city of Gandhinagar reported 17 cases and Patan reported 15 cases.
Similarly, Narmada has reported 11 cases and Panchmahals reported nine cases. Banaskantha has reported eight cases and Chhota Udepur reported six cases. Botad, Kutch, and Mehsana have each reported four cases, whereas Porbandar has reported three cases. The coastal district of Gir-Somnath, Kheda, Sabarkantha, Mahisagar, and Dahod have each reported two cases. The districts of Jamnagar, Aravalli, and Morbi have reported one case each.
According to the Health Department, out of the total cases, 10 people are in a critical state and put on ventilator support, 1,220 people are stable, 93 people have been discharged, and 53 have died. Information made available by the department also provides that 1,309 cases out of the total 1,376 are incidents of local transmission, 33 people have a history of international travel, and 34 have a history of inter-state travel.
As far as deaths are concerned, apart from the 25 deaths reported in Ahmedabad, seven deaths have been reported each from Vadodara and Surat. Bhavnagar is trailing Vadodara with four deaths, Gandhinagar and Panchmahals have each reported two deaths, and one death each has been reported from Jamnagar, Botad, Anand, Kutch, Aravalli, and Patan. Out of the 53 deaths, three had a history of international travel, three had a history of inter-state travel, and the rest 47 cases were incidents of local transmission.
So far, 16,925 people have been placed under quarantine.
