On September 5th, we all celebrate the birthday of our former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan as "Teacher's Day". Dr. Radhakrishnan was a great philosopher and teacher. He once said - "I am the first teacher, and then I am the president.
Radhakrishnan was born on September 5, 1888 in Tirunutam of Tamil Nadu. Radhakrishnan was brilliant in his childhood. In 1906, he received master's degree in Philosophy from Madras College. His professor was very impressed by the invention he prepared for his Master's degree when he was only twenty years old. His discovery was published at the age of twenty. He did not like the subject of philosophy, but his distant brother, who was studying in his school and college, gave books to philosophers Radhakrishnan. Radhakrishnan went to study time to spend time and in this way he went on to become a philanthropist. In 1909 Radhakrishna started his career as a professor of philosophy. Along with his college work, he also did writing work. In some contemporary magazines he wrote articles on philosophy. His first book was 'The Philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore'. In 1926, at the Harvard University, he represented Calcutta University in the International Congress of Philosophy. When India freed in 1947, he was acting as a representative of India at UNESCO. When he was India's ambassador to the Soviet Union from 1949 to 1952 In 1952, his appointment was made as the President of India. When he became President of India, his friends and students were shown enthusiasm to celebrate his birthday.
However, Radhakrishnan suggested to celebrate his birthday as a teacher. Since then, his birthday is celebrated as a teacher in India. Dr. Radhakrishnan was honored with some British and Indian elite for his service. In 1954 he was honored with Bharat Ratna. In 1975, Oxford University awarded him the Templeton Award.
